I met Elijah Wood on April 26( which was last week )
It all started with the big move from Toronto,Ontario, to London,England (well
actually to Essex). My best friend,Lucy,swore she'd visit me; and so about 8
months later she did.
I only had 2 days to spend with her, so my mom took my brother to a shopping
center, and I went to go see a film and go shopping with Lucy. My sister was
feeling left out so my dad took her to see the markets in London. After they'd
looked around for a few hours,they decided to come home. The train was leaving
from Fenchurch Street Station, and there were all these trailers and cameras
around. My dad asked one of the police standing around what was going on, and he
said that they were shooting a film called "The Yank".
Suddenly after the policeman had left my sister yelled out"Dad,I think I just
saw Elijah Wood!" but did my dad believe her? No. So they came all the way home
and told Lucy and I what had happened.
Just to be sure I looked up "The Yank" on the internet, and I found out that
Elijah actually was acting in it.I spent ages and ages trying to convince my dad
to take Lucy, Aoife(my sister ) and I into London. He finally agreed.
On the train Lucy kept saying stuff to me like" Ciara what if he's not there?"
and "Just pretend that he won't be there so we won't be too disappointed if he
isn't."
We got to Fenchurch street station and we waited for about an hour with no sign
of him. Then I looked out the door and grabbed Lucy's arm.
"Lucy, I think I just found Elijah Wood"
"No, where. I didn't see him."
"He just walked that way. He was wearing a black shirt and had blood down the
side of his face. I swear that was him."
"Who,that guy. No that can't be him."
"No, not that guy...oh you can't see him anymore."
Then the police officer that talked to my dad the day before came up behind us
and said,"You're not looking for the hobbit from the Lord of the Rings are you?"
and we said yes.So he said "He's just over there. He's really good with fans and
autographs and things like that. He's lying down on some steps just down that
way."
When we were allowed out I ended up in the front our little line. So I walked up
the steps and I saw him lying down with his eyes closed , and I wasn't sure if
he was asleep or what.
So I turned towards the guy sitting beside him and went,"Um...Excuse me ,is
he..."
But the man went"Shhh. He's asleep." So we went down and sat on the curb to
wait.
We were waiting for about 25 minutes. When people say that Elijah Wood can sleep
through anything, they're not kidding.There were soccer riots being acted out
all around him, but he still slept.
When he finally did wake up Lucy and I were both having second thoughts about
asking for an autograph, I mean, he had just woken up. But he was sooooooooooooo
kind.
When we walked up to him, he didn't really notice us, until one of the other
actors said to him as we walked towards him,
"Oooooo, looks like you've got some fans,Elijah."
Then he looked up at us and went"oh!"
Lucy said," Um you're Elijah Wood , so ..." and then we both said together "
could we have you're autograph?"
He was like,"oh yeah sure"
My hands were shaking so much. I don't think I've ever been so nervous just
opening a shoulder bag to get out a pen and the inside cover thingy from my Lord
of the Rings CD. I handed them both to him and he said,
"So what's you're name?"
and I told him it was Ciara, so he started to write the "K" when I said "Only
it's spelt kinda weirdly. It's spelt C-I-A-R-A ."
Then Lucy got her autograph; and I asked for an autograph for my friend Agnese,
and he looked at me with his big, friendly, blue,mesmerizing,eyes and said "Oh
yeah,sure!"
I was so,sorta, stunned at the blueness of his eyes that I forgot how to spell
her name, so I had to ask Lucy how to spell it.
We got a picture of us with him, and as I was handing my camera to one of the
actors who had offered to take it I nearly dropped it, my hand was shaking so
much.
We walked slowly back to the side of the road, when we realized that Aoife
hadn't got an autograph; but as we turned back, he had been called to do a
scene. So we waited for about 1 hour and he probably thought we were stalkers or
something, and he kept looking over at us and laughing with one of the guys on
set. It was really weird.
Seeing as it was the last day of shooting (in London at least) we had to wait a
little longer.Elijah was walking away from the big group of cast and crew, I
went up to him (only because Aoife was too nervous to ask him anything) and
said"Um...Elijah? Sorry to bother you again, but Aoife just decided she wanted
an autograph."
He sounded really apologetic and said" Just wait one second...We're just gonna
take a cast photo and then I'll come back over; just don't leave,okay?"
And he actually did. We spent the whole train ride in silence,just absorbing
what had happened.
